During our trip to Indiana, our guinea pig, Albert, died. I wasn't so much upset for myself, as I was for Maggie. Albert stayed in her room with her and she absolutely loved him, too. Every morning, the first thing she'd do is go over to his cage, tell him hi, and check his food and water. Anytime she was in her room playing, she would go over and play with him. Anytime we had carrots in the fridge, she insisted on feeding them to Albert.
Rob and I decided it would be best if he took his cage, food, and everything that belonged to Albert out of sight. Last night, we took her up to her room to see if she'd notice that his cage was gone. At first she didn't notice a thing, but after a couple minutes, she walked over to where his cage used to be and asked where he was. Rob simply told her he was gone. She then replied "Albert gone, town?" (translation: Albert is out of town?) So, we just said yes and she was okay with that. She continued to ask about Albert last night and asked again multiple times today, but overall seems to be taking it just fine. Time will tell. We thought it was probably a blessing in disguise that he died while we were gone, so she was never the wiser about any of it.
